Children's and young people's participation is more than good practice. Organisations need to understand their responsibilities, create meaningful opportunities for children to influence decisions, and be able to demonstrate the difference participation makes. My work connects rights-based practice with statutory duties, leadership assurance and relevant inspection expectations helping organisations build approaches that are meaningful for children and robust at a system level.
Participation Systems Review
The Participation Systems Review is an independent, evidence-based review of how children and young people's knowledge travels through your organisation, whether it reaches the people who decide, and whether it counts as evidence once it arrives. Rooted in the Lundy Model, it's available at three depths, from a focused diagnostic through to a full system or multi-agency partnership review, each ending in a written report and a senior leadership findings session. It's not about asking leaders to democratise decisions they remain statutorily accountable for, it's about building the evidence base that lets children's knowledge count within them.
Strategic Participation
& Systems Change
I help children’s services strengthen the systems, leadership and organisational conditions that enable children and young people’s rights, knowledge and experiences to influence decisions. Rooted in the Lundy Model of Participation, my work looks beyond participation activity to how organisations create Space, support Voice, provide Audience and enable Influence, including how children and young people’s knowledge travels through systems, how it is understood and valued, and whether it leads to meaningful change.
Political Leadership & Governance
I work with elected members and those holding governance responsibilities to strengthen how children and young people’s rights, knowledge and experiences inform political leadership and decision-making. My approach goes beyond hearing children’s voices to consider how their knowledge reaches governance, the weight it is given, and how elected members can use their leadership, scrutiny and corporate parenting roles to ensure participation leads to meaningful influence.
Professional Mentoring & Practice Leadership
I provide independent professional mentoring for participation leads, children's rights leads and others responsible for influencing participation across organisations. Providing a space outside line management, I support practitioners to think strategically, navigate organisational challenges, strengthen their influence and develop as confident practice leaders capable of driving change across complex systems.
Training & Workforce Development
I provide specialist training and workforce development that helps practitioners, managers and leaders translate children's rights and participation into everyday practice. With particular expertise in the Lundy Model of Participation, my approach combines theory, reflection and practical application so that learning leads to changes in how children and young people are heard, involved and able to influence decisions.
Independent Facilitation, Challenge & Speaking
I provide independent facilitation, constructive challenge and specialist speaking for organisations, partnerships and leaders working to strengthen children's rights, participation and systems change. I create space to explore complex questions, challenge established thinking and turn discussion into practical action.
